Companion

Hey everyone,

Happy 1st December and happy Monday! It is actually a mild morning, it feels very still outside. I have a long list of things to do today, the main one being studying. It feels like a monumentous task at the moment, but I am motivated. I can do this…! I hope I can do this- haha.

In true Amina fashion, I have sat down to study but already got distracted by my own thoughts- it really doesn’t take much for me does it? Anyway, my thoughts have lead me to think of the word ‘Humsafar.’ Humsafar is actually an Urdu word which could be translated as meaning ‘companion’ or ‘life partner’, literally translating as ‘fellow traveller’. It is used to describe someone who travels through life with you, providing support and companionship through all of life’s journeys. The term can also be used for any fellow traveler or companion in an endeavor.

It reminded me of a Pakistani series I watched whilst I was in medical school starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan which was also called Humsafar. Anyway, I find Urdu such a beautiful language. Some words spoken in Urdu, when translated into English, just lose their beauty. I actually was taught Urdu in mosque as a child, even how to write it. I have lost some of my skills, but I still try to speak my broken Urdu- mostly when I have to with patients! Maybe one day, I should practice my writing. I recall having homework as a child to write out passages in Urdu.

How time flies eh? And now it is 1st December 2025. It is nearly 2026. Wow.

On that note, enough procrastination Amina.. back to studying I must go!

Wish me luck guys; hope you all have an amazing day!

With love,

Amina xo
